Fear is a powerful emotion that can hold you back from reaching your full potential. It can prevent you from trying new things, taking risks, and stepping out of your comfort zone. But what happens when you push through that fear and do it anyway? As the saying goes, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” In this blog post, I will share my recent experience of facing my fears and how it has made me feel empowered and stronger.
The Fear
A few days ago, I had my first live painting event. As an artist, I have always felt more comfortable working in the comfort of my home (living room), away from prying eyes. But this event required me to paint in front of a live audience, and I was nervous as hell. My mind was filled with doubts and insecurities – what if I mess up? What if people don’t like my painting? What if I freeze up and can’t paint at all?
The Decision
Despite all the fear and doubts, I decided to show up. I reminded myself that this was an opportunity to grow and challenge myself. I also realized that I had been showing up for others my whole life, and it was time to start showing up for myself. So, I took a deep breath, listened to inspirational music, packed my paintings and supplies, and headed to the event.
The Experience
As soon as I arrived, I feel my nerves kicking in. But I pushed through and started painting. It was much easier than I thought. The venue was a gaming bar, so I painted a Black Panther-inspired by my son wearing his Halloween costume. This helps me to relax and enjoy the process. I also met some amazing people genuinely interested in my art and story. It was a fantastic experience connecting with others through my passion for painting.

The Result
Even though I didn’t finish my painting by the end of the event, I felt proud that I showed up and didn’t give in to my fear. By pushing through the fear, I had not only created a beautiful painting, but I had also gained a sense of empowerment and strength. I proved to myself that I am much more than I thought.
The Aftermath
After the event, I felt like I was on top of the world. I had faced my fear and come out the other side, and it felt incredible. But what was even more amazing was the realization that this experience had taught me. It showed me that facing fear is not about eliminating it, but rather acknowledging it and doing it anyway. And the more I do it, the stronger I become.
The Lesson
Someone once asked me, “What does an eagle do during a storm?” I answered, “It flies the opposite way.” But, he told me that eagles fly through the storm, facing it head-on. This made me realize that the only way to overcome challenges and grow is to face them directly. As the eagle flies through the storm, you must face each obstacle and challenge to reach the next level. Avoiding or running away from challenges will only hinder your progress and prevent you from reaching your full potential. So, I decided to show up for myself, stop running away from challenges, and push myself out of my comfort zone. And I have to say, it feels great. I am learning and growing in ways I never thought possible.
Conclusion
In life, it’s easy to let fear hold you back. But what would happen if you faced that fear head-on and did it anyway? You surprise yourself and discover new strengths and abilities you never knew you had. So, the next time you feel that fear creeping in, remember that it’s an opportunity for growth, and go for it. As for me, I will continue to show up for myself and push through the fear because it feels great to do so.
