Master your emotions: Practical tips for dealing with all your feelings

Feelings are temporary, like waves bringing inner calm or turmoil. During times of uncertainty, I inhale peace and exhale worries. All is well in my world. As Roy T. Bennett once wrote: “If you want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present.”

You are not your thoughts and you can control your feelings. I read somewhere that two opposing emotions cannot occupy the same space at the same time. Therefore, when I feel fear or dissatisfaction creeping in I smile and remind myself that I have everything I need for a happy life. Suddenly harmony and peace envelop me. Within that moment, I am free of what weighs me down.

Based on the law of gravity, “what goes up must come down.” You and I are not immune to such a law. On days when I feel overwhelmed, I sit with my journal, draw, paint, or make jewelry to work through my emotions. I ask myself: Why am I feeling this way? What could I have done differently? What have I learned from the experience? How can I find peace now?

When I create, I feel bliss, anger, resentment, and pain without judgment. My gifts allow me to self-reflect and process my emotions effectively. For each of us, it is different and I was fortunate to know how to heal/coach myself using my creative gifts. For example, making this necklace gave me insight into how I deal with emotions. I can feel the shift towards peace with each sunstone, tiger eye and carnelian gemstone I string. I open my mind, body, and spirit to gratitude, singing praises to success and lessons learned.

Peace is inside you and not outside. Therefore, nothing or no one can disrupt your inner tranquility. Though the ego may be bruised and crave revenge. People come and go, and material things lose value and fade away. You control your emotions. Your power is in your hands. With each breath, let love, forgiveness, and gratitude fill your body as you surrender to your highest good.

Until next time,

P.S: Sometimes you have to lose to win.
