How do I rewrite my Inner dialogue with positive mantras? Sometimes, I caught myself spiraling. It often happened at mid-painting, when something wasn’t going as planned, and before I knew it, the flood gate opened, and the internal narrative began:
“You’re not talented enough.”
“This will never be seen.”
“What’s the point?”
The pattern is familiar. I’ve danced with it too many times to count. But lately, instead of letting it define me, I paused. I asked myself: What if I interrupt these thoughts? What if I don’t resist them but replace them with truth?
Step 1: Name the Pattern
Negative thoughts don’t start loudly. They whisper. They ride in on disappointment, tiredness, or a sense of comparison. They sound like:
- “It’s too late for me.”
- “No one cares about what I make.”
- “I’m not consistent enough to be successful.”
Naming the thought externalizes it. It becomes a visitor, not a voice of God.
Step 2: Pause and Flip the Script
Instead of reacting, I breathed. And then I flipped the script, rewriting each lie into a mantra.
| Negative Thought | Empowering Mantra |
| “I’m falling behind.” | “I create in divine time.” |
| “This isn’t good enough.” | “I trust the process, not the outcome.” |
| “No one will care.” | “The right people are already finding my work.” |
| “I’m inconsistent.” | “My rhythm is sacred and uniquely mine.” |
Repeating these mantras isn’t spiritual bypassing; it’s a spiritual return to my truth.
Step 3: Anchor It in the Body
After saying the new mantra, I close my eyes and speak aloud. I place one hand on my chest, one on my belly, and breathe it in. I let it settle into my nervous system, not just my mind. This makes it more than a phrase; it becomes a somatic reminder that I am safe, supported, and worthy.
Step 4: Create with the Mantra in Mind
Before painting, I now write one mantra on a sticky note and place it near my workspace. It becomes my creative companion, gently guiding me back to trust when my mind wants to wander to fear. Today’s mantra was: “My art is a portal, not a product.” And every time I felt tight, I looked at those words and softened.
I Am Not My Thoughts
Not every thought I have is true. But every time I choose a new idea, I reclaim my power. This practice is reshaping my art. It is also reshaping my energy and how I see myself. I am learning to see myself not just as an artist. I see myself as a soul learning to speak life over herself.
Your Turn: Rewrite Your Inner Narrative
Take a moment and reflect:
- What thought has been draining you lately?
- What would your inner muse or highest self say instead?
- Can you turn that wisdom into a mantra?
Write it. Say it. Breathe it. Paint with it.
If this journal entry spoke to your creative soul, I invite you to try this practice for 7 days:
🖋️ Write one mantra each morning.
🧘🏽 Say it aloud. Feel it in your body.
🎨 Create from that space of truth.
Share your favorite mantra with me in the comments. Alternatively, tag me on IG @dawkins_art. I’d love to witness the new story you’re telling yourself.
Your voice matters. Your art is medicine. And your thoughts? You get to rewrite them.
Until next time, happy creating.
