Why do I hold onto things out of comfort, instead of letting go for freedom? The truth is, the fear of the unknown cripples me more than, anything else. I find safety in the predictable, even when it limits me, because the unfamiliar feels like risk, like danger.
But deep down, I know this: if I were 100% sure I wouldn’t fail, I would quit my day job tomorrow and pursue my art full-time.
The Trap of Comfort
Comfort can be a cage disguised as safety. My job, routines, and familiar patterns give me stability, but they also keep me from stretching into the unknown. The longer I stay, the harder it feels to step out, even when my soul longs for freedom.
I tell myself I’m waiting for the “right time,” but what if the right time never comes?
The Fear of the Unknown
The unknown holds both possibility and fear. It whispers: What if you fail? What if no one buys your art? What if you can’t sustain yourself?
But what if the opposite is true? What if the unknown is where my dreams are waiting? What if freedom, abundance, and success are on the other side of this fear?
What If Failure Wasn’t an Option?
If I believed I couldn’t fail, I’d already be living as a full-time artist. That realization stings, because the only thing stopping me is fear. Not my talent, not my vision, not my passion. Fear.
And fear is only as powerful as I allow it to be.
Steps Toward Freedom (Without Losing Ground)
- Build Slowly: I don’t need to quit everything today. I can start building income streams through my art while maintaining stability.
- Shift the Mindset: Instead of asking “What if I fail?” ask “What if I succeed?”
- Embrace Small Risks: Every step into the unknown builds confidence.
- Prepare for Transition: Save, plan, and create a roadmap that makes the leap less daunting.
- Trust the Process: Freedom is never guaranteed, but growth always comes from choosing courage.
Reflection
Freedom requires risk, and growth requires letting go. Comfort may feel safe, but it won’t take me where my heart wants to go. The unknown is scary, but it is also the only place where possibility lives.
Take Action
Comfort may feel safe, but freedom is where your dreams live.
