Embrace Your Inner Muse: Celebrating Self-Beauty

As a portrait artist, I have the unique ability to capture the beauty and complexity of my subjects. But I have never considered being my own muse until recently. Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s quote, “I am my own muse, I am the subject I know best. The subject I want to know better.”  Thus, I began asking myself, “Who knows and understands me better than yourself?” In this blog post, we will explore celebrating the beauty and complexity within oneself. We will also discuss how it can inspire your work.

Understanding Yourself

Being my muse started with observing myself. Each day I grow mindful of my beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and the experiences I focus on. I asked myself, What makes me unique? What are my strengths and weaknesses? What makes me bold, peaceful, abundant, and certain? I am learning to embrace all aspects of myself, even the ones I am not proud of. This self-awareness has helped me grow as a person and as an artist.

Embracing Imperfections

In my art, I strive for perfection. But imperfections are what make us human and beautiful. So, instead of hiding or fixing my flaws, I embrace them, using them as inspiration for my work. Whether it’s a physical feature or a personality trait, my imperfections add depth and character to my work.

Challenging Beauty Standards

What’s your definition of beauty?  As an artist, I can challenge society’s standards of beauty. Being my own muse, I can showcase a different kind of beauty – authentic and unique to my perception. This can inspire others to embrace their own beauty and break away from societal norms.

Finding Inspiration

As I continue to explore and understand myself, I find endless inspiration for my drawings. I will share portraits along the journey and how my life experiences, emotions, and thoughts have influenced my work. I am determined to dig deep and express myself through art. I trust and believe my journey will resonate with others and make a meaningful impact.

what does be your own muse mean?

Being your own muse is not just about creating self-portraits. It’s about embracing and celebrating beauty and complexity within oneself. As a portrait artist, I strive to inspire and empower others through my work. Taking the time to know myself will help me to understand myself and tap into my full potential. Hence, my art will show my unique and beautiful self.

On that note…

I encourage you to think about your own definition of beauty. How can you embrace your unique qualities and imperfections? Have you considered being your own muse? Share your thoughts or experiences in the comments below; I’d love to hear how you celebrate your individuality! Together, let’s inspire one another to embrace our authentic selves.
